History:
Union County was established on April 1, 1820 by Colonel
James Curry. It was created for a Virginia Military District that
included 23 other counties (from the Ohio River to Hardin County). The
county seat, Marysville, was established on May 15 of 1821.
Geography:
Union County is approxamately 434 sq. miles in area.
It is located in the west-central portion of Ohio. The highest elevation
point is 1,022 ft. Most of the county consists of farm land and is very
rural.
Geology:
The land in Union County is ideal for farming. Dozens
of acres are used for crops each year.Its ranked 7th out of 88 counties
in the sheep and lamb production.
Politics:
The mayor of Union County is Mr. John Taulbee and the
state is governed by Governor Taft.
Sociology:
The county has an adequit population of about 38,000.
The people have a country charmed attitude with a mid-west friendliness.
Its a small quaint section of Ohio that educates about 13,000 people every
year.
Attractions:
- The Honda ACccrod plant located in Marysville, and
is the high light of the county.
-Balloon Festival; The 22 year old tradition of almost
40 hot air balloons , manyof which are a variety of shapes ,sizes and colors
takes place every August. It takes place at the county fair grounds.
-Prairie State Nature Preserve, and the Reed Covered Bridges
are famous and exciting land marks for the county that are well known and
often visited.
