There

Illinois is a large , bustling state. Its population is the
6th largest in the country. The square mileage of the state
comes in at 24th with 56,345 square miles of land and 700 square miles
of water. Most of the water is contained in Lake Michigan. The capital of Illinois is Springfield.
Illinois became a state in 1818.
When the Wisconsin
Ice Sheet retreated from the Great Lakes area, it left behind glacial debris
known as drift. This drift filled in ancient valleys leaving
Illinois flat.
The borders that make up Illinois
are the Mississippi River in the
west and beyond that the state of Iowa. To the north is Wisconsin,
to the east, Indiana. The Ohio River makes up the southern border
and in the northeast corner is Lake Michigan.

in Illinois varies depending on what part of the state you're in.
